This was the year the Indians hoped to win it all ! They did host MLB's All Star Game, and they did win the American League Championship. They had played in the World Series in 1995 and lost to the Atlanta Braves and felt that this was their year. Unfortunately, the Florida Marlins also thought it was their year (and it was). The Marlins won the World Series (4-3).
